This build won Marrickville’s Council’s Sustainable Building Award in 2016. Designed  by Tracy Graham from Connected Design www.connecteddesign.com.au the Marrickville hempcrete house is an alteration addition to an existing single storey semi detached house in Sydney.  Acoustic requirements for aircraft noise and a shared chimney made this a challenging project.

The designer wanted to achieve the right solution that did not compromise thermal performance or the aesthetic of the project. She describes it as an incredible collaborative process with a dedicated builder with a great eye for detail.

Whilst complying with acoustics they managed to create a building that will not only have good acoustics, but will provide incredible thermal performance with over R5.6 insulation in the roof and R2.85 in the walls. Hempcrete has been used in both the walls and the roof.

The owners moved in at the end of November 2015 and have experienced temperatures of 27 degrees internally when externally the temperature hit 40 degrees.
